Hunt Valley Elementary School is proud to have been recognized by thePurple Star Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children as a 2020 Purple Star school for the second year. The Purple Star designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated their commitment to meeting the needs of military-connected students and their families.

We earned the Purple Star recognition though a commitment to meeting the needs of military students by providing resources and programming on issues important to military families, such as academic planning and transitions between schools, districts, and states.

The average military family relocates 6-8 times while children are in grades K-12. Recognizing the impact that every move has on each family member is key to implementing services and resources to help them acclimate to their new surroundings.

Our new military students participate in new student groups to help at the beginning of the year to orient them to the Hunt Valley Community.  Additionally, the Hunt Valley Counseling Team and the Military and Family Life Counselor offer Military Student Groups throughout the year so military peers can connect on topics unique to being a part of a military connected family.

Hunt Valley Elementary School works to ensure its military students and families are supported and valued throughout their time at the school. We host annual Veterans Day activities throughout the school that brings community and family members together in recognition of the service and sacrifice of military members and their families. Additionally, Hunt Valley celebrates Month of the Military Child and Purple Up Day in April to highlight the important role military children play in the armed forces community.

We are excited and proud to display the Purple Star in the our lobby.
