A Message from the PTA President

Dear Hunt Valley Families,

Thank you to everyone who came out to the outdoor Dinner and Movie Night!  We had perfect weather and a great crowd. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves, had some free popcorn, along with pizza and snacks for the evening.

We had our exciting first PTA meeting of the year on Tuesday, Sept 17. There was a great turnout mixed with administration, teachers, parents, and even students :). We discussed the budget for the year, the goals, upcoming events, and volunteering opportunities and committees that need chairs/coordinators. For those that missed it, the meeting slides, approved FY25 budget, and meeting minutes will be posted on the PTA Website here: hvpta.ptboard.com/activity no later than Tuesday, Sept 24.

Next week is our Fall Book Fair Sept 23 - 27 in the school library. This Fall Book Fair is the first since the pandemic and it’ll be so much fun for the students coming through. We have partnered again with a local business, Bookworm Central, and we’re excited to bring you an amazing selection of books from different publishers, minimal toys that are academic focused such as puzzles, and much more! Also, all of your purchases will be tax-free! We are in need of many volunteers to make this event successful. Please consider signing up: https://hvpta.ptboard.com/sgnvw?signup

We also have our Fall Festival Neon Dance Party next week, Sept 27 from 5:30pm-8:30pm at the Hunt Valley School Grounds. Wristbands are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Adults and children under the age of 3 are free.  The wristbands provide access to unlimited carnival games, trackless train express with a dedicated driver, 40’ obstacle course, live DJ, food trucks and much more! Get your wristbands here: https://huntvalleypta.givebacks.com/store/items/1101227

A Message from our Administrators

Happy Friday Hunt Valley Families,

It was great to see so many families at the Fun Run on Saturday! We always love this kick-off event at the beginning of the school year to bring together our school and community. Thank you to the PTA for organizing and "running" such an awesome event!

We have a lot of events over the next week here at Hunt Valley. Tonight, we have our outdoor dinner and movie night on the field. Don't forget to dress warmly and bring a blanket. Monday, September 16th is our first three-hour early release. Families of students that will be staying at Hunt Valley received additional information via eNotify. If you have any questions, please reach out to administration. Tuesday, September 17th, is our first PTA meeting of the year. There are in-person and online options for the meeting and we would love to have more families attend and get involved in the PTA this school year. Wednesday, September 18th is our Back to School Night. This is a time for families to meet the teachers, get information about the school year and learn about reading and math instruction. This event is for adults only so please coordinate childcare as there is no childcare provided at the school.

We look forward to seeing everyone this evening at the outdoor movie night.

Sincerely,

Keieownna Hightower, Principal

Chrissy Gibbs, Assistant Principal

Eric Kopacz, Assistant Principal

🍎 Make Every Day Count! The Importance of Attendance

As you plan upcoming trips and other family events, please remember the importance of sending your child to school every day. Review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during breaks from school.

Children who show up for school regularly develop fundamental reading and math skills while building a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Research shows that children who were chronically absent (missing 18 days or more) in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade.

Blue Star Welcome Week

Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community.

Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Throughout the week, FCPS will help ease their transition through events, messages, actions of welcome, and opportunities to make meaningful connections. Please help us welcome our military families during Blue Star Welcome Week, September 21 - September 29, 2024, and throughout the year! #BlueStarWelcomeWeekFCPS

Community Conversations

🎤 Our Schools, Our Future: Register Today for a Community Conversation!

Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid will host a series of Community Conversations this fall. She invites you to share your thoughts and ask questions.

The next event is scheduled for Monday, September 23, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Newington Forest Elementary School. Click on the date to register. Childcare and language interpretation services will be provided.

🩹 Immunization Requirements

Please check with your health care provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up to date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school

You may check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to your school’s front office.

Alternative immunization documents (below) may also be provided to your school’s front office, but they may not be uploaded in ParentVUE:

  • A health care provider’s written statement specifying all administered immunizations.
  • A health care provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
  • A notarized Religious Exemption form objecting to the administration of immunizations due to conflicts with their religious tenets or practices.

Find more information on immunizations

FCPS Cell Phone Policy

📵 Phones Down, Engagement Up: FCPS Cell Phone Policy Keeping cell phones off during the school day helps students focus and learn. It also boosts positive social behavior. Review FCPS’ cell phone expectations by grade level with your child and help keep our classrooms free of distractions! If you need to reach your child during the school day, please call our 703-913-8800.

Grades K-6

  • Phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Cell phones may be used on campus before and after school only.
  • Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.
  • Students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms and locker rooms, unless there is a medical necessity or emergency.
  • With the approval of the principal or their designee, teachers may allow usage of cell phones for instructional activities where they are the most appropriate tool; however, one-to-one FCPS devices should meet most needs.
Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights

Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents and caregivers to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.

In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available: a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.

Get more information and view the 2024-25 Opt-Out Booklets.

Please help us welcome our military families during Blue Star Welcome Week, September 21 - September 29, 2024, and throughout the year! #BlueStarWelcomeWeekFCPS

Dear Hunt Valley Families,

Despite the rain, I hope you all enjoyed your first long weekend of the year! We are excited to host our first event in three days! Join us for a morning of fun, fitness, and friendship at our Fall Fun Run! Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just looking for a fun way to get moving, this event is for everyone! Come out, enjoy the fresh air, and let’s boost our mental and physical health together!  We’re also selling spirit wear and got a new shipment of youth sizes. So if you weren’t able to get the size you needed, stop by the table and check it out. Limited quantities available.

Friday September 13 from 5:30–9:30 we'll be having our outdoor movie night. We are looking for 1–2 additional volunteers to run the concessions and clean up afterwards. Please reach out if you're able to help.

Make sure to look through your take home folders for the September Event Calendar (great for taping on fridges), and the after school programs flyer. Please note: there has been a change to the Thursday program. The Overtime Athletics program has been canceled. The alternative program is Kids in Motion. The programs include the following (grade-dependent):

●      Monday - Kaizen Karate

●      Tuesday - RunFit Kidz

●      Wednesday - Code Future

●      Thursday - Kids in Motion

●      Friday - Chess Academy

We're still in the process of posting our calendar events to both the HV PTA website (hvpta.ptboard.com) and the Facebook groups, so you can plan ahead. Check regularly and stay tuned! Dates might shift and a few events will be added, but this should help you plan ahead!

If you need anything, please reach out to [email protected] or [email protected].

Sincerely,

Iris Stoyanov

Hunt Valley PTA President

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS – We are excited to kick off our football season with our first home game on August 29th as the Spartans take on the Hayfield Hawks @ 7pm.

The theme for this FIRST home game is a WHITE OUT.

All elementary and middle school students need to be accompanied & supervised by an adult while at the game. High school students who get dropped off must plan to have their rides waiting for them at the conclusion of the game.

If you or your student plans to come, please take the time to discuss the relevant information below:

  • No backpacks or other bags will be allowed in the stadium.
  • No outside food or drinks are allowed. The concession stand will be open.
  • The purpose for students who attend our varsity football games is to watch the game, cheerleaders, band, and dance team.
  • We cheer for our team and not against our opponent. All cheers should be positive.
  • The gates to the stadium will open at 6:15pm.
  • All students need to leave immediately following the game.
  • Elementary & middle school students must always be supervised by an adult.
  • If you leave the game, you will not be able to re-enter the stadium.
  • Whistles, air horns and similar noisemakers are prohibited.

Our goal is to create a positive community event.  Any behaviors that take away from this goal may result in removal from the game.  LET’S GO SPARTANS!
